Kindergarten Open House!

Marissa had her Kindergarten Open House last night at her new school, Andover Elementary!  This school is HUGE....bigger than my high school so I was lost and needed the map to find everything.  I'm sure it will be no big deal to the kids that attend it and I know that they keep the Kindergarten's on one wing to themselves so they shouldn't get too lost!  With a big school comes big opportunities....more than what I had growing up that's for sure.  I'm reading through the handbook last night and I said to Tony, "does this seem like 9th grade currirculm or what"  I guess it's true Kindergarten isn't what it used to be.  Luckily, Marissa is a smart kid and I know she will thrive in school.  They give the kids each a 6-digit code along with a practice sheet for punching in the code at lunch time to pay for their meal.  She had memorized after telling only 2 times.  She has my "numbers" mind.  Remember, that Mom????  I can always remember numbers for whatever reason.  My mom would ask tell me a number to remember for her....hahahaha....I have a feeling Miss Marissa got that gene.  That skill came in handy when I was working in Accounting back in the day.

Anyways, Hansen Blvd was backed up because of road closures and it took forever to get to school.  This did not please Marissa because she just "couldn't wait any longer" according to the screaming from the back seat.  When we finally got there, we had to wait for daddy...and wait....and wait....and the meantime I found some people I knew that actually worked at the school and promised to keep an eye on Marissa for me!  HA!

When we finally got to meet her teacher, Ms. Charbonau, Marissa was happy again.  We checked out her classroom and found her mailbox & locker.  This kid gets a regular locker just like I did when I was high little cubbies anymore for her.....then we walked around the school to find the cafeteria (of which there are many), libraries and computer labs, art  & music rooms (again, multiples of everything)......she will be in good hands this year at school.  I signed up to volunteer in her classroom so I'll be THAT mom.....hope she will appreciate it someday....and Daddy already said he wants to come eat lunch with her......LOL.....

This is an adjustment for ALL of us but we look forward to her years at this school and we feel lucky to have such a great school for Marissa to be at!

All ready to go!

One of the tasks was to sign your name on the table!  I like the "I" and how she signed it!

2,095 days ago......

How was I to know that 2,095 days ago or 5 years, 8 months, 25 days ago......that this little girl....

WOULD GROW UP SO QUICKLY.....and be off to Kindergarten so is it possible???  Was I always so happy to be a stay-at-home mom?  Did I feel lucky to be with her everyday?  YES, although some (ok, most) days had moments where I wasn't so sure I made the right decision....I almost feel like it's graduation day for myself....WE made it...WE did it....but then it's a sad feeling that her carefree days as a kid are slamming to an end and now she will always have a responsibility that is lingering ahead of her......

I'm EXCITED to see her blossom and grow at school.  I KNOW she will do incredible things in life.  When I look back at these last 2,095 days....I know I don't REGRET one day of being home with her.  I have to let her go but part of me doesn't want to.......YES, it's been a HUGE sacrifice not only career wise, money wise but I have lots more years ahead of me to do the things I want to do.

So, my little Marissa darling....thank you for these last 2,095 days and I look forward to thousands more as you grow up and be everything you were put on earth to be!  I LOVE YOU!  Thank you for being patient with me as I learned how to be a mommy! I'm far from perfect but you continued to smile and love me through each day!  Again, I love you with all my heart!

Marissa had her BFF Emma over for a sleepover this week before school starts.  They got rained out of their slip n'slide & campfire night but we made the best of it anyways!  The rain cleared up in time to go to music in the park!  The girls danced to the sound of the Andover High School band!  We made s'mores on the grill since the campfire was out!  They fell asleep pretty easily which made me super happy!

The next day, we met up with Betsy & Kolden and all headed to Teddy Bear Park in Stillwater.  It was our last hoorah before the summer ends!  We also ended the week with a trip to the Bunker Beach waterpark!  Can't believe summer is slamming to an end!  UGH!  Here's a few pics from the week!

Welcome Home...4th post of the day!

This post is for my husband who said he wished I would have posted the pictures of the kids when I walked through the door at the airport so Tony here you go :)

Yes, my kids were happy to see me and I was ecstatic to see them!  After a long flight, they made my day!

Brody snuggled right in......

Europe Trip!

So here it is the 3rd post of the day!  Mom and I spent 2 nights in Brussels, Belgium and 4 nights in Paris, France!  It was quite an adventure!  Mom had meetings in Brussels so we flew into there the day before her meeting.  We did a lot of exploring and walking around.  We happen to be there during a National Holiday and a special thing they called the Flower Carpet.  It consisted of 700,000 flowers being laid out in the Grand Place area.  It was very beautiful.  They had many shops ( a lot of them were chocolate shops) and cafes lined street after street after street.  I was surprised at how much I really did like this city.  It was a very charming place!  The food was very good.  I had a whole day to myself while mom was working to explore the city.

Next stop was Paris, France!  We took the Thayls train which only took a little over an hour to go between the two cities.  It wasn't very scenic because we overlooked lots of farmland on the ride to France.  It was just like a trip to Iowa!  Kinda crazy!

We got checked into the hotel which overlooked the Eiffel Tower.  We had to make that our first stop.  Lots of people everywhere.  We did a lot of walking and exploring the city by foot.  The next 3 days we had a bus pass on the double decker bus that allowed you to hop on/hop off at any of their 50 stops in Paris.  On our first night there, we went up to the top of the Eiffel Tower and didn't get back to the hotel until 1:30AM.  It was a beautiful site at night but a very long wait!

It was a fantastic trip!  Thanks, Mom for taking me along with you on this adventure!

I spared you most of the 700 pictures I took!  Now I'm caught up again!

Family Pictures!

A few weekends ago, we got our pictures taken!  Brody wanted nothing to do with the photographer and would barely look at her.  We are going to have to try it again this fall to see if he will attempt to look at her!  Here's a sample of how they turned out!

I have some major catching up to do.....

Ok, so I'm going to try to get 3 posts done today!  LOTS has been happening around here and I better update this blog before I get too far behind!

So first things first,  as most of you know, I just returned home from Europe yesterday so while I was gone Tony did a fabulous job holding down the home front on my behalf.  Here's some pictures to show you how they kept busy while Mommy was away!

Tony took the kids to Como Town and Zoo to ride some ride and look at the animals!  Marissa was super excited to get to do some of the bigger kid rides!  I even got to Skype with them while they were at the Zoo!

On Friday, they ran some errands and stopped over at Betsy's garage sale.  They just happened to get there at the right time to get in on a tea party they were having!

Then, Tony took the kids to the cabin for the weekend.  They enjoyed getting to fish, boat rides, camping in the tent and spending time with Great Auntie Gwen!

So, all in all, I think everything went smoothly and they had a good week.  I need to sneak in a couple of other pics in this post too!  The weekend before I left, Marissa got to go on 2 dates with her Daddy.  Friday night, he took her to the Dr. Suess "The Lorax" movie in the park.  Then on Saturday, she got to go roller skating (her request) and go out for ice cream!  She is one lucky girl to get these special dates with daddy!

Stay tuned for more updates!
