Zumbathon & 10-mile race update!

Another busy weekend flew by and here I sit on Monday morning wondering where the weekend went!  Friday night, I attended a Zumbathon downtown Minneapolis to raise money for the Y Partners.  It was a good excuse to squeeze in another session of Zumba while helping a great cause!  Some of my favorite ladies from the Andover Y Zumba class came with me and we ended up having a great time!  After the Zumbathon was over, we headed to CRAVE for a fun dinner!  It's not often that I get to sit and relax through dinner and I think as busy mom's we all enjoyed it because we were there for 3 hours!

Here's a pic of some of the Andover Y crew!

On Saturday, we took the kids to the Maple Maze Indoor playground, ran errands, took naps, cleaned out the garage, had dinner at John & Beth's and then headed to bed early so that I could get rested up for Sunday.

Sunday was the big RACE day!  I participated in the Women Run the Cities 10-mile race again this year.  I definitely thought I was more prepared and trained for last year's race more than this year but I shaved 8 minutes off my time from last year so I feel SO good about that.  It went remarkably well and I felt like I did my best!  10-miles didn't even seem that bad and I recovered much easier from it than I did last year so I say I'm making progress!

Thanks to my awesome running partner, Betsy, who always is there to get me through each race!  WE DID IT!

After the race, we rested awhile and then I got busy making chili and apple crisp for dinner!  A perfect way to end a chilly fall day!

Here's some random pics I took throughout the week!

Apple Orchard and Weekend Fun!

Another busy fun weekend is coming to a close and here I sit again to share our pictures and stories from life!  We started out on Friday night heading to Family Fun Night at the Y.  Daddy had a work party to attend so I took the kids and they really enjoyed it.  They brought their sleeping bags and I think they were probably more interested in all the snacks they had there more than watching the actual movie.

On Saturday, we started off by getting up early and heading to the apple orchard.  This is our 3rd year going to this orchard and it's always worth the drive.  It was a beautiful, sunny day and it was the perfect day to spend together as a 4family!  The kids enjoyed picking the apples off the trees and then heading over to the kids play area where they had a train ride, went through the corn maze, drove tractors, face painted, played with the farm animals, climbed the hay mound, and went down the slide from the corn bin.  It was such a fun day!  We came home and made some caramel apples right away!  One of our favorite fall treats!

Saturday night, I had to pick my friend, Betsy up from the airport and she treated me to a yummy dinner at CRAVE.  She introduced me to sushi and even taught me how to use chopsticks!  It was such a beautiful night to sit outside and enjoy a kid free dinner!

This morning, we headed to church with John & Beth to celebrate Sophia!  We had a yummy brunch and enjoyed some good family time!  We got to spend time out at Great Grandpa and Great Grandma's with all the cousins.  I just love watching all of them play together.  I can tell they really are enjoying being together and just being kids exploring the huge yard, playing soccer and chase and going on a nature walk.  Happy 80th birthday to the greatest Great-Grandpa!  We love you!

Another busy week ahead!  Marissa starts her Sparky's "career" at AWANA and has school 3 days this week!  Looking forward to another fun filled week :)

A week of FIRST'S!!!!

Well this week not only started off with Marissa loosing her FIRST tooth but on Monday she started her FIRST dance class of the season.  This year is especially exciting because her BFF, Emma is in her class.  Since they go to different schools now, they don't get to see each other, so this will be a good way for them to stay connected throughout the year!  They both LOVED it and they have a huge class this year full of girls!  I hope it's a successful year!

All of a sudden she is all "LEGS"....how did that happen?

The girls all ready for dance class!

Brody had a FIRST this week too!  He went to his FIRST music class!  It gave me a little bit of a feeling of dejuvu' because it truly doesn't feel like almost 4 years has gone by since Marissa and I were doing these classes.  He was a little hesistant at first but by the end he really warmed up and started singing to the songs.  He really enjoyed playing with all the instruments too.  I think it's going to be a good class and something the two of us can do together!

In other randomness for the week, Brody and I are still trying to figure out how to go about our day without SISSY around!  On Wednesday, he watched the school bus go down the street saying , "Sissy, come back?"  It was SO sad!  We are filling our days with time at the park, lunch dates with friends and playing outside!  Marissa is 100% LOVING school and she comes home in such great moods.  She tells me all about her days and it sounds like she is having so much fun!  I love that she has such great enthusiasm for school right now.  I know that will probably change as the years go by.  She is SO excited for next week because they go to the computer lab and that's a REALLY. BIG. DEAL.  HA!  Busy weekend ahead that I will blog about later!  Enjoying the fall weather as a family is top on the list this weekend!  Here's a few pics I snapped during our days!

1st Tooth!

My little girl got her 1st tooth out tonight.  Ok, yes, it's her 2nd tooth to come out but since the 1st one was an accident, we celebrate this one as her FIRST!  YIPPEE!  It's been loose for about 6 weeks and tonight we pretty much forced her to do it.  She did the hard part and daddy did a quick tug and boom it was out with no problem!  The adult tooth is coming up quickly and now has a space to move into!

The toothless grin!  Tooth is gone on the bottom!

Her tooth pillow with the tiny tooth on it!

I'm doing this post a little backwards but our weekend started off good continuing with the yearly tradition of going to our local high school football game.  Marissa and Tony have gone the last two years and now this year Brody got to come too (oh, and mommy).....we met up with the whole Holgrimson clan.  The girls seem to enjoy the dance team, the snacks, and running around.  Brody sat with Grandpa the whole time and watched the game.  We left during the 3rd quarter but it still was a late night for the kids.

Here's a few pics from the night!

1st day of Kindergarten!

So today was the day we've been anticipating for months, maybe even years....the 1st day of Kindergarten!  Marissa was up by 7:00AM ready to get ready for the day.  She took a shower, ate a good breakfast, brushed her teeth and got dressed....and sitting by the door ready to go 45 minutes early!  To say the least, she was excited!  Daddy worked from home today so that he could be part of her big day.  We took pictures and videos before we walked down to the school bus stop.

Marissa hopped right on the bus with no problems and I saw her start talking right away to the little girl sitting next to her.  A sigh of relief, step #1 done.  We hopped in the van to get up to the school to make sure she found her teacher alright and the bus beat us there.  Marissa is on one of the last stops before going to school so she certainly doesn't ride long to get there.  I quickly found her with her class and teacher to give her a sweatshirt I had forgotten earlier before they went inside.  I wished her a good day and she said, "Mom, tell Daddy I love him."  I said, "I will but Daddy is parking the car and he will be here in a minute."  She was then off with the rest of her class but her Daddy caught up with her on her way inside and she was sure to give him a quick "I love you, Daddy."  It was almost like she knew that he needed that reassurance.

Brody was very lost without his sissy all day and kept asking to go find her.  I was glad when it was time to go back to the bus stop to wait for her and to see how her day had went.  She came flying off the bus with a huge hug and smile for me.  She had a fun day and was excited about it!  So here is the things I learned about her day:

***She has her own locker that had her name on it.  They had us practice with the kids on how to open the lockers and she reported back that she had no problems with it today!

***When asked what was your favorite part of the day?  She replied, "RECESS"...does this surprise...not at all!  She said she saw some friends from soccer during recess and was excited about that.

***I asked her what she had for lunch.  She said she got a tray and chose Chicken Nuggets, Celery, a Banana and Milk.  She said she ate it all besides one piece of celery.  She asked me, "Mom, did I make healthy choices?"  I had to laugh at that.  She was proud that she remembered her 6-digit code to pay for her lunch and had no problems punching it in.

***She said they talked about the alphabet and she chose her favorite letter "H" to do a project on.  "Ya, know, Mom, H for Holgrimson"

***They learned and practiced the correct way of holding a pencil and did a worksheet on that.

***They went to another Kindergarten class "which used to be another music class" and did a coloring project in there.

There you go...that is it in a nutshell!  I'm glad it was a successful day.  Now she has tomorrow off and back to school on Friday.  My big girl did an awesome job and I am proud of her!!!
